but each other

PERSONALITY

Emma Swan is a tough nut to crack, mostly because of the way that she views herself. She has a difficult time getting past the abandonment from her parents, and feeling like a little Lost girl. That is why she identifies so much with Pan, even though his methods go against everything she holds dear. She was even adopted at one point but returned to the foster home after her "parents" conceived a child of their own. Adding, of course to her abandonment issues, which are a driving force in her life.

Emma was used to disappointment. Friends, lovers, even her foster families were a constant disappointment. She didn't feel needed by any one one of them. They treated her as a means to an end, and she began to see herself that way. She tried to make a go of things with Neal, who she viewed as a light in a dark tunnel, but when he chose himself over her, it left her feeling more isolated and alone. As a result of these things, Emma was a lonely young woman with no one to rely on but herself.

Emma was content to live her life alone, needing the constant companion of loneliness as a reminder never to let anyone close to her again. It is an issue that she still struggles with. It is much easier to run and move from place to place than have to deal with broken trust and betrayal.

It is funny that Emma's journey into loneliness started with Henry, and the end of her self-imposed exile ended when he showed up at her door. She wanted nothing more than to push him away, to send him back to where he came from, but one look at his face and she knew that she couldn't do that. The need to keep emotion out of things for her continued sanity is still there, but through being in Storybrook, she has learned that is okay to let people in and open up, although she struggles with it every day.

Emma is a fiercely protective individual. It mainly manifests in her protection of Henry, but since deciding to return to Storybrook, she has opened herself up to other people as well. It has primarily been her parents and a few close friends. She is still wary of giving her heart away since Neal shattered it, but she has moved on from completely exiling romance from her life.

Emma is a loner, so she tends to gravitate towards people that are in similar situations. She tends to help people that can't help themselves and tends to play the protector. She believes in fighting injustice as well. This is not because, as others think, she is the prophesied Savior, but because she didn't have anyone to protect her when she was a child, and knows what it is like to be abandoned with no help.

While she is getting better at understanding her own conflicting desires at protection versus isolation, she doesn't like it. As a matter of fact, she would like nothing better than to leave with her son and never look back, but those protective instincts does not allow for that.

She is a strong woman. She can come off somewhat abrasive and stubborn. She doesn't let people close enough to her to allow them to help. She is somewhat broken and had created a tough exterior to help her protect her heart. She feels that if she doesn't let anyone close than she will be able to protect herself to function. She is a walking talking contradiction of feelings and emotions. She is hard, but only because she has had to be. She thinks that she would not be good for her son, yet she will do anything to protect him. It has taken a long time for her to accept that she is a good mother.

Emma's views on right and wrong have changed over the years. She had no one to teach her growing up. when she turned 16, and ran away from her group home, fleeing to Portland, she had to do what she had to , in order to survive. She stole things, and broke into places that were off-limits. In the end, she survived. Her mentality is that only the strong survive. She was anything but weak.

Everything about Emma boils down to one thing: She is a survivor.

ABOUT

Emma Swan is a 28-year-old bail bondswoman from Boston. Emma was abandoned at birth and grew up in the foster care system. She learned the hard way that she could only rely on herself, which is why her chosen career of bail bonds person is the perfect choice for her. She derives pleasure from putting her deadbeat marks in their place.

Emma ran away from her foster home when she was 18 years old and ended up in Portland Oregon. She was not above doing what she had to do to survive, including stealing a yellow bug. Unbeknownst to her the car had already been stolen by Neal Cassidy, who was on his own as well. They began a whirlwind romance of shoplifting, and planning, both wanting a life together. They often slept in the bug, or a rare hotel room, but for the first time in her life, she was happy with Neal. She wanted to do whatever she could to help him, so instead of sending him to go pick up stolen watches where he might get arrested Emma went in his place because she loved and trusted him. Little did she know that faith was misplaced, and after August's meddling he called the police, and the police arrested Emma. We would find out later that she was pregnant. The fallout from Portland was both good and bad. The good, was that she gave birth to a baby boy. The bad? She had to give the baby up for adoption, and she 's jaded towards love and men for a long time. Fast forward ten years, sees Henry showing up at her door in Boston saying that she is his birth mother, naturally freaked out, Emma doesn’t want to believe him, but because he looked so cute, she went back with him instead of staying in Boston.

She doesn’t believe what Henry is saying that every character in Storybook is a fairytale character, and she is supposed to save them all because she is the Savior. She plays along because she doesn’t want to crush the hopes and dreams of an 11-year-old. Emma clashes with Regina on a regular basis, not because Emma believes she is a fairytale character, but because Emma thinks she is a bully. It isn’t until Henry almost dies, and she breaks the curse with true love’s kiss that she truly remembers who she is.
The peace and tranquility in Storybook never last long, after reuniting with her parents, which freaks her out, she and her mother sucked into a portal to the enchanted forest where they meet Mulan and Aurora. They battle Cora and Hook to get back to the people they love, which they eventually do.
Life is never dull, and she is unknowingly reunited with Neal, who happens to be Rumpelstiltskin’s son. She made a deal with him to find his son, much to Neal’s chagrin. Things don’t go quite as planned land Rumple ends up mortally injured, leading Neal back to Storybook, with his fiancé in tow.

Emma reads people well, and something just feels off. She is a human polygraph, and she doesn’t trust Tamara. She shouldn’t because she shot both August and Neal when they got in her way. Emma and Neal made peace, and after rescuing Henry from Neverland, they decide to be friends and put the needs of their son before their own. Regina put a spell on Emma and Henry taking their memories away as they left Storybook before the second curse hit sending everyone there back to the enchanted forest.

Hook found Emma. Returned her memories and she and Henry went back to Storybook to try and figure out why everyone couldn’t remember the last year. Eventually, it was brought to light that Zelena was behind it all, including the boyfriend she had in New York and Neal’s death. Zelena was trying to steal Snow White’s second baby, to go back and change the past. She almost succeeded when by kissing Emma Hook stole her magic from her. His deception was something that she had trouble forgiving and even after Henry got his memory back, and her brother was born, she still wanted to go back to New York and have a normal life with Henry.

Emma travelled back in time, back to when her parents first met, and nearly messed up her timeline. There is nothing like stopping your parents from meeting for the first time to start the day off right. Nothing comes simply for Emma, she returned to the present with Marion, a woman she saved from being killed by the Evil Queen. She didn't know at the time that she saved Robin Hood's late wife thereby messing up Regina's happy ending.

Emma, determined to make things right works alongside her family fighting their latest challenge Elsa of Arendelle. She learned that the Snow Queen was one of her Foster mom's who was manipulating her into thinking that her family didn't need her. Thanks to Elsa, Emma came to the realization that she can control her own destiny.

APPEARANCE

Emma is 30 years old, with long blonde hair, and hazel eyes. Emma appears to have a tough exterior, but in reality, she is very kind and gentle. She usually doesn't scream welcoming to those she doesn't know well. Emma is a beautiful woman. Her smile is probably her best feature when she chooses to use it. She has long wavy hair that begs to have fingers run through it. Emma's style is casual chic. She is much more comfortable in jeans and boots, rather than dresses and heels. She can usually be found in a red leather jacket if weather permits.

ABILITIES

Emma's superpower, the term she used jokingly is the ability to tell when people are lying. She could do that before she knew about Storybrook. She does though have magical abilities as well.

known powers:

-pyrokinesis
-protective barriers
-telekinesis
-absorption of magic
-using mirrors to see into other worlds/places
-throw balls of light

Her magic is sometimes beyond her control, especially in highly emotional situations.
